Murase Kabanko Leather Bolca cowhide children's randoseru for the Hong Kong material buying guide

2026 Randoseru Buying Guide: Cowhide, Tochigi and Artificial Leather

Choosing a Japanese school bag in Hong Kong starts with a practical question: should you buy cowhide, vegetable-tanned Tochigi leather, or artificial leather? For parents researching 日本書包 and 日本小學書包, the useful answer is not simply “real leather is best”. Compare the actual model, its intended wearer, weight, dimensions and care requirements before choosing.

The short answer: choose the wearer before the material

For primary-school use, compare the children's cowhide and artificial-leather models below. Tochigi leather is also cowhide: “vegetable-tanned” describes how it is processed, not a separate animal material. Our Kabuto example uses vegetable-tanned cowhide with mimosa tannage, but it is an adult randoseru, not a like-for-like P1 alternative.

An artificial-leather main body does not automatically mean an animal-free bag: some models list soft cowhide back and shoulder-strap linings. Check the complete material description.

2026 material comparison for 香港 Randoseru buyers

This table uses our store's material, weight and dimension metafields, checked on 12 October 2026. Dimensions are outer height × width × depth, not usable compartment size; weights are approximate. Rain and care guidance comes from our randoseru care article. Its school-bag surface guidance is not a model-specific waterproof certification, and no water-resistance rating was found in these specification fields.

Glanz V / child L-fort artificial leather; artificial-leather back and strap lining 1,230 34 × 26.5 × 21 Care guide describes school-bag surfaces as water-repellent; no model rating listed Gentle cloth cleaning; dry in the shade if soaked inside
Leather Bolca / child Cowhide Strong #09; soft cowhide back and strap lining 1,450 34 × 26.5 × 21 Care guide describes school-bag surfaces as water-repellent; no model rating listed Follow Cowhide Strong care; do not assume cream is needed

日本皮革書包: cowhide and Tochigi are not interchangeable

Cowhide Strong for children's school bags

Leather Bolca's listed Cowhide Strong #09 body and soft cowhide lining identify both the exterior material and the parts touching the wearer. Its listed weight is 220 g above Glanz V, although construction differs too. Treat that as a comparison between two complete bags, not proof that every leather bag adds the same weight.

Our care article separates Cowhide Strong from soft cowhide and cordovan. It recommends gentle cleaning for Cowhide Strong rather than making leather cream a universal requirement. For a family choosing a school bag, a manageable care routine matters alongside the feel of genuine leather.

Tochigi vegetable-tanned leather for an adult user

The Kabuto material field specifies vegetable-tanned cowhide and mimosa tannage. Its 1,800 g weight and 40 cm outer height belong to an adult model. A parent attracted to Japanese leather craftsmanship should still start with the child's school requirements, rather than choosing this adult bag for its material alone.

The care article does not give this Kabuto finish a specific water rating or conditioning schedule. Ask for advice before applying cream, spray or other treatments. An adult leather preference and a child's practical school-bag requirement are different buying decisions.

Clarino and L-fort: compare the complete bag

Mu+ Chocolate and Glanz V weigh 1,100 g and 1,230 g respectively. Their dimensions and linings differ, so “artificial leather” is not one standard specification. Compare actual models rather than making blanket claims.

For a daily school load, compare the bag together with the books, bottle and homework folder your child actually carries. Outer dimensions cannot prove folder fit. Our separate Hong Kong P1 guide to A4, F4 and homework bags addresses capacity without repeating that discussion here.

工房系書包 comfort: fit matters as much as grams

Our comfort-feature article describes the 10 mm M Cushion, Y-line back padding, raised strap fittings and curved shoulder straps. It explains cushioning, airflow, reduced sideways movement and a centre of gravity closer to the back. These are design descriptions, not clinical evidence that a bag prevents spinal problems.

Check the individual product description rather than assuming every model has every feature. Mu+ describes Y-line cushioning and curved straps; Glanz V describes an M cushion. Adjust the straps to the wearer and judge the loaded fit, not just the empty weight.

Workshop craftsmanship and ordering in Hong Kong

Murase Kabanko is a Nagoya bag maker founded in 1957, with a continuing focus on craftsmanship, as stated in its company release on PR TIMES. Its official website presents its workshop-made randoseru. For a broader buying checklist, read our existing Japanese workshop randoseru guide; this article focuses specifically on material choices.

Standard delivery to Hong Kong and supported overseas destinations is 7–14 business days. Local pickup is not offered. Zero-stock items can be pre-ordered, are made in Japan, and have their expected delivery date confirmed by email rather than the standard delivery window. Customers pay return shipping, subject to the applicable refund policy and consumer rights; see our store FAQ.

Before ordering, contact us with the intended wearer, school requirements and preferred material. The heaviest or most expensive material is not automatically the right choice.
